searching online I found many posts about worn out m50 headbands (they aren't the most durable) .. certainly it seems most people probably either live with it or get a cover that seems to be commonly available on amazon / ebay.. which is valid.
These M50's are basically the first "nicer" headphones I had.. I bought these and the AD700 (which i hated.. and was allergic to.. true story.. allergic to earpads of the ad700 =\) at the same time.. These m50's are also my very first mod... I dropped them and broke the 3.5mm connector on the stock attached coiled cable.. So i modded them to 3.5mm removable cable..
when the headband started to go I was sort of bummed as I like these and liked the mod... So I figured I was going to try to replace the headband.. I emailed AudioTechnia.. who said they wouldn't repair them because they have been modded.. fair enough.. so I emailed them about buying the part (381303270 headband assy m50x) $23.65 and $13~ shipping (ouch).. oh well $37~ later ($36.66) part arrived today..
it isn't hard but it is fiddly to take headband apart and desolder old cable then solder in new headband and reassemble is it worth $40 to fix an old M50?? meh who knows.. it is to me..
