I bought some wonderful headphones several years ago (Beyerdynamic DT990 2005). Recently the right ear stopped working. I thought by getting 'quality' headphones I would shelter myself somewhat from repairs. Maybe Beyerdynamic is not a quality product after all.

Is it worth repairing? If so, how would I get it done?

Well, has it stopped working entirely? If it cuts in and out it could be a cable issue (relatively easy fix if you're not scared of soldering, cutting up cables and dismantling headphones) It could be a blown driver, in which case you'd need to buy a new one and replace it, or repair the voice coil (very hard) depending on whats wrong with it.

Or alternately, you sell it to guys like me who fix stuff and buy yourself a new set. There is lots of help to be found in the DIY forum, if you're adventurous.

So make me an offer.

BTW. These still look as good as the day I bought them. My life has gotten too busy I guess because I seldom have time to listen to music.

It turns out the right can is actually producing sound but it is so low in volume I can barely hear it. I found this out by changing the balance so the left ear was at 0% and the right was at 100%.

What would cause this? Is this a driver problem?
