I all,

I recently purchased a set of Koss PortaPro headphones. I think they are quite a good value, with a warmer sound than my KSC-75s and they are very comfortable.

However, I want to try and quarter mod the pads to clean out the mids and highs a bit. I tried taking off the foam pads, but the bottom of the pad seems to snag on the compartment where the wires enter the driver.

Can this little compartment be popped off (similar to the cover for the KSC75)? Or will have just have to tear off the bottom of the pad?

I will try to take some pictures to illustrate what I mean.

Thanks,

Pull up and out. It has little teeth, and you'll rip the pads a bit regardless of how good you are. The bottom just requires a bit more finesse and/or careless force. Don't worry though, they'll wear out and need replacing before you ruin them.

So is it really impossible to keep the pads intact (i.e. without ripping them) when removing them?

I've just bought these recently, and I'm a little hesistant to damage them in any way.

Complete waste of effort. The foam there is so thin that it's not affecting sound in any perceivable way.
