Head-Fi'ers, sorry for this news!
After Britain and Ireland banned the game Tuesday,
Italian Communications Minister Paolo Gentiloni said
Thursday that he would seek to have the sale of the game
canceled there as well. In a statement he called the game
"cruel and sadistic, with a squalid environment and a continuous,
insistent encouragement to violence and murder
."

Read here: Manhunt 2

What do you think about this and other violent video games?

P.S.
Are you a Video Games Addict? ....

Thats so stupid, if people don't like it they don't have to buy it.

Although I don't play video games I am against (extreme) violence in movies, games etc.
What's the purpose of such games? Sadism, cruelty, .... ? What's the message here?

Seeing that it's against forum rules to discuss such things, I won't go into specifics.

I hope that this thread does not violate any head-fi.org policies. -
I would not have posted it.

Fixates your urge to kill people. Personally, I think a society without super-violent video games become more violent. That's why I played Counter-Strike: Source.

I don't believe at all that it encourages violent behavior. In a game, you die, then you come back to life. But in life... 0_o .If their country bans it, well it just shows how commited they are to moral decency. Germany's even worse :/

I wonder just how "violent" is it... more blood? More gore? I personally don't see gore even in FEAR.

Discussing imaginary violence is probably fine... I wouldn't worry about it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

nobody even played manhunt 1. Also, if a game is rated M, 17+ are supposed to buy it. I don't see an issue here.

Well a lot of stores don't check, from my experience. Maybe this is just in Canada.

I wake up every day and am thankful that there are people out there looking after me. Without them, I may have played Manhunt 2 and had the instant urge to loot, pillage and murder.

I remember that time I played GTA and my family had to keep me strapped to my bed for a week until the bloodlust faded. That was a rough time.

Obviously the artistic merits of being chased by a naked obese man wearing a pig 's head for a hat has been lost on you. Perhaps you'd rather watch a nice Michael Bay movie?

Rockstar has continuously pushed to find out where the boundaries are for gratuitous violence in video games, I'm not very surprised that we got to the point where these groups are stepping in. I'm sure we're going to see more of a backlash after this example was set.

Personally I have no interest in the game or games like it what-so-ever, but the way the game was handled makes one wonder about the big picture. I definitely feel that people should be able to make their own choices, however I don't deny the problem that there are a lot of parents out there that don't give a second thought as they buy whatever game their children are crying for without even looking at the box. I have no idea what the ideal solution is. =P
