From experience I can only assert that the Rega Ear is very sinergystic with the Senn HD 580 and its siblings. There is lots of clarity with no trace of veil. Very musical. Great value for money. Yes it is a great amp. I hope to someday audition the Beyers with this amp.
I had a listen a couple of times and liked what I heard but do not own one. That would make my opinion pretty much worthless. Hopefully you would be able to get a chance to listen with your prefered phones I was using grados at the time.
Forum member pbirkett uses the Rega ear for his DT531 and seems to be quite happy. As both, the DT880 and the the DT531 are 250 Ohm phones, I guess the rega should be able to drive the 880s.
I'd be interested to see how the pair [DT880+Ear] partner. Most people who have used various Beyer headphones with the Rega Ear have reported fairly decent results.
The DT531s sound fine out of it, but I wont speak for anything else.

Heh...I'm actually using a Rega Ear + DT880 right now...
Just borrowed the Rega today. Planning to do some comparing with my MAD Ear++ over the next few days. Ear vs. Ear++
The Rega sounds very good with the DT770 and DT880, but the MAD seems to have a little more control over the lowest frequencies. The MAD also seems a little fuller in the midrange, so the DT770 suits the MAD very nicely. Can't say that the Rega sounds overly bright or thin.
If this keeps up, for the price, the Rega Ear is definitely great value for money. It's also one of the very few headamps that can be bought in a store here in Norway...
