hello everybody.

i have an akg k500 and a k400.
i need to give them a good treatment. can anybody help on the next topics.

1)need new black elastics (to hold the strap in place). where do you get it, or what do you use ?

2)a new cord: i know a lot of treads are going about it. but i need a shop in europe, i'll take 4 wires cause i'm building an balanced amp.

3)there are also small plastic things on the iron bendings. they are broken of. i will do that in wood: does someone knows a light but very durable wood, that is not prone to dryness. (so that after a year the wood doesn't brake because of the dryness).

thanx a lot guys

You can get new elastics from AKG. I'm not sure who the parts rep is in europe - you should be able to get that info from the AKG website (on the professional side of the website, not the consumer side).

Don't know much about wood but AKG can sell you new headbands too. You might want to ask how much that costs before attempting the wood parts.

Can't help you on the wire.

That depends on the elastic mechanism on the K400 & K500. While the hairband trick works on the K340, it cannot be done on the K240 Sextett because of the different said mechanism.

Cheers!

It can be done on a K240, just not done *well.

iirc the k400 and k500 have a headband system identical the k401 and k501.

Edit: And so they do. And from the look of the service document's exploded diagram, you should be able to use the larger size hair elastics quite successfully. Or order the factory part.
