Around 8:30 this evening I was sitting in my living room with a couple of friends when we suddenly heard a loud bang which shook the house and rattled the nic-naks.

There's an underpass for the commuter train not far down my street and since it's the common source of noise around here, we assumed a couple of train cars had bumped together a little rougher than they should have while joining cars.

I just found out that there was an explosion at the Petro-Canada refinery located on the lakeshore about 10 miles from my house. Actually, the refinery was converted into a lubricant manufacturing facility a few years ago, but still has that dozens of smokestacks with lights on them appearance of a large refinery.

Apparently, although it was a huge explosion which rattled windows for miles around, nobody was injured and the fire was quickly brought under control. Which is a good thing because I don't like the idea of being near concentrated toxic fumes all night.

Last Thursday it was the blackout ... now this.

I hope it doesn't start to smell

Funny you should say that. It gets worse. I just took a drive to the nearby 7/11. There's a serious lightning/thunderstorm underway with huge lightning strikes lighting up the city about once every two seconds. As I'm driving along Lakeshore Blvd. in the opposite direction of the refinery explosion/fire, an unbelievably large lightning strike hits off in the distance ahead of me, causing the entire skyline to light up. While this is going on, I'm listening to the radio news about the refinery explosion ( it was a hydrogen tank ) when they cut in and say there's been another huge explosion, this time about 15 miles from my house on the same Lakeshore Blvd. at the waste treatment plant. Apparently caused by lightning. A huge fireball went up. That's what I saw lighting up the skyline a few minutes earlier.

So there's been two massive explosions in the city tonight, both on the same street about 25 miles apart. Both are still burning. Plus, although my power is still on, much of the area is out again because of the lightning storm.

What's next?

Don't ask. There was one day where I was really accidentally abusing my eyes. I accidentally stuck my fingers in them, etc. So I was telling someone else about it, and I said, "...just about the only thing I haven't done is piss in them..." Wouldn't you know it, the next time I went, the splash was several feet higher than usual...missed me by that much (holds fingers about an inch in front of his eyes)...

Sorry to heat that Mike, Just try not to get nervous and that would be fine. **** happens and as good old Murphy says, "if something can go wrong, it will". Take care.
