No, but I compared the output of my iPod to my CD player using a lossless file and found them to be equal. Unless the mod has the ability to make the sound better than the source, I see no reason to upgrade.

That's what it's designed to do. This is the reason why I asked had you listened to an iMod (assuming that you had not). Perform a search on this board, and you'll find testimonials of people attesting to a dramatic improvement in sound quality (rivaling the quality of mid-fi CD players). I can hear very clear differences between the output of a normal iPod and a CD player (albeit a Naim, haven't checked vs budget players). With the iMod the difference is still there but less so. Your MP3s will sound better with the iMod, lossless files will also sound better than a stock iPod. If you want to stick with MP3s you might also check out installing Rockbox on your iPod - I've found the MP3 decoder to be superior to Apple's, particularly on LAME encoded files.
If you don't use an amp and good headphones, you probably won't hear the difference, so don't bother.
