i'm trying to record from my MD into my G5 computer...i have an optical output on my MD and i want to use the optical input on the G5...but, i'm not sure how to record the music that's coming into the G5. i've found this application: Audio Companion...does anyone know anything about it? can anyone recommend something else? thanks.

thanks for the tip guys...i tried it and it was okay. the sound was pretty good, but i want a few more features, so i might have to pay for something...namely, i want to be able to split tracks automatically, say, if there's a silence about 2 seconds long, to automatically create a new track. that way, i can play my whole MD and all the tracks will be automatically broken down into individual files, which can then be imported into itunes. if there's anything out there that does this...or, if audacity does it and i'm just not figuring it out, then please let me know.

that is a tougher job than you might think, to my knowledge audacity does not have that capability. Presumably your md's are live shows, which means it doesn't cut off given silence, but just at a certain "crowd noise" threshold. I just track everything manually, by all means let us know what you find out!

There should be settings on your MD player to add automatic track marks or track marks whenever the player detects silence for more than 2 seconds etc.

i have tracks marked on my mini discs...but i'm trying to get music FROM my MDs to my computer. the computer applications that record music from various inputs (like audacity, audio hijack, etc.) don't automatically break the long track into individual tracks, but i think some programs do this. i'm still debating whether or not i should pay for an application that does this...audio hijack pro is $32! and audio companion is $30...not sure it's worth it.
