I have had my Beyer DT990 headphones for around 6/7 years and now would like to upgrade, have you any suggestions? I prefer oen back type headphones. I intend to drive them off my RME 9632 sound card.

Thanks

You should list your music preference so people can recommend an upgrade for you

If you like their soundsignature (I personaly love it), then there won't be much to step up in the same direction. I think you might like GS-1000 or Omega2 as an replacement.

The same, but the 2005 Ed which is better, and with better materials and is nicer.

Which one is better depends on who you ask(I have not heard non-05). If he wants dt990 then the dt990 05 600ohm is the one to get (haven't heard it but it's suppose to be best), but I would personally go for GS-1000 if I had the money (actually have heard it briefly and liked it) and wanted a supercharged dt990.

I own several high end headphones. I still like the DT990s (600 ohm) as much as any, although all headphones are voiced towards a certain sound. If you're bored, you might want to try an AKG-701 or one of the Sennheisers.

But, the DT-990s are really a nice phone.

Yes, the GS1000 is my other alternative as open headphone.
The dt990 05 600ohm and/or the GS1000 might be in the near future a real consideration. But i recommend to the Op the Ed 2005 as replace (the 600ohm if you have a very powerfull amp) .
hey Henmyr, how is the bass in the GS1000 (slam/quality/extension) and the headstage (bigger, the same or smaller and if is 3D like as the DT990) and the speed (bass, mids, highs) vs the DT990)
Cheers

I have heard it TOO briefly to do a comparison. The only thing that struck me during the few minutes was the nice timber and nice bass. Would have to hear it much more to give a qualified comparison.
