I am currently using the Audioengine D3 DAC/AMP on my iMac with iTunes. My headphones are the Beyerdynamic DT770's 250 OHM.
Should I get one of the Schiit products, Audioquest Dragon fly, Fiio? Or is my D3 what I need?
To me it seems that my DT770's could handle more power but I haven't used anything except the D3.
Thank you for your help.

Me, I would look at replacing the DT770, before upgrading the DAC/amp.

Keep the DT770, I've cycled over 5 different headphones now and I have no intentions of parting with my DT770. Look at the stuff from SMSL, I bought a M300 recently. Those seem to measure really well. It really depends on your budget, my amp it's the old Violectric V200 workhorse.

My DT770 took on new life after I started using the Topping A30-D30 stack, very capable and quite affordable. Give that pair a try.

OK. So what would you suggest that I replace the DT770's with?
Does it matter if the headphones are open or closed?
Budget?
These headphones are really just for music listening?
