Living in NYC and looking for some stores where I can try out some mid to high end headphones. Pretty new to the hobby and realize I just missed CanJam. My timing is terrible. Currently use Brainwavz HM5 and he400i out of a schiit stack!

Live pretty close to Lyric on the Upper East Side and am hoping to check them out soon, but would love some more suggestions.

Been awhile since I shopped at Lyric but they obviously have had a good reputation over the years. Another one you might check out is audio46, email info@audio46.com. Maybe shoot them an email and be sure they have what you are seeking. They have a huge selection. A friend shopped there and was quite happy. Good luck

B&H Photo but last time I checked they didn't have HD800's anymore for some reason.... Also it's incredibly noisy there, cool store though!

Got another recommendation to check out audio46 as well. Hoping to get there this week since my tax return is burning a hole in my pocket, lol.

If your looking for better headphones, tell us what you may not like about your current headphones and what you my want in new headphones?

I like the he400i a lot, retiring the HM5 because they are falling apart on me after 6-7 years of use! There isn't anything I strongly dislike about them, however I haven't had the chance to test out many closed headphones as I've leaned more towards open when possible.

Right now my needs are for a closed headphone since I am in a pretty quiet environment where leakage would be an issue. Planning on auditioning the MrSpeakers Aeon Flow Closed which is at the high end of my price range (also would consider used which seem to go for 550-600). Really just looking for excellent closed suggestions that are really well rated for comfort as well as semi-portable.

edit: Also have been considering Fostex TX-H00 and T50RP variants, but several reviews have said they have a good amount of sound leak so hoping to hear some for myself soon.

In living stereo looks real nice. I agree B&H is way to loud to evaluate headphones.
