Hi

I have been searching for a tube amp under $500 cad for my dt880 600 ohms. I am looking for an amp from a good company that will back the amp up with at least a year of warranty. I want something that is ready to go out of the box besides the tube (not diy). I've done some research on the little dot mk 3 and 4 as well as the dark voice. I mainly want something that will bring out the tube sound.

Thanks in advance :)

Too bad you don't want to look at Bottlehead Crack as I heard a 250 ohm DT 880 thru my BH Crack and it was quite good. Haven't heard any of the Little Dots but they get very good reviews.

I like my Darkvoice 336SE, sometimes Massdrop has it for $213-$250 ($199 + tax + shipping).

Thanks for the replys, I really just missed the massdrop drop for the darkvoice, I was hesitant because I've read a bit about the quality issues. (rusty tubes, smoke). I thinking seriously about the little dot mark3. Do you have any experience with that amp?

Zero experience with the Little Dot MK III.
I never really see any negative posts about the LG MK III

I'm in the same boat as you Tom, but for my hd650s, let me know how you get on and I'll let you know how I get on. Good trade?

I'm considering the LD mkiv (non se), garage1217 project ember ii and the bottlehead crack (I'm an electrician so I should be able to build it hahah)

Yeah, massdrop just announced that they will be dropping the hd650 for $200 on the 9th. I am actually really tempted to return my dt880's for them. On the other hand, I want to give the dt880's a chance because at this price point, I feel as if most of the minor details are just preference. Btw, I am very envy that you are an electrician haha. I am planning to buy the little dot around black friday to see if I can find a deal. Till then, good luck to you as well!

funny I have been considering this same thing ~affordable tube amp for my DT880's (premium 250ohms) and then I see the MD for the HD6XX's and I'm all confused... I'd keep both if I get the HD's but MD has complicated my xmas wish list.

I've only really started to get into headphones and amps a year and a half ago. This really all started when my cousin let me into his music room with literally a bookshelf full of retro tube amps, huge speakers, a vinyl disk player and a chair. I think I will stick w/ my dt880 and try to drive my 600 ohms with a otl amp as I have heard that otl amps are great paired with the dt880's @ 600 ohms.

Hi Atarione, the post I just posted really was the deciding factor as to why I'm going to stick w/ my dt880s. I hope it helps you out as well.

cheers,  yeah I read that..  I have owned my DT880's for a couple years now... I actually really like mine.. ATM I generally use this vintage 80's Kenwood receiver (behold it's ALL BUTTONS.. no knob greatness)... It has a eq and so depending on what I'm listening to I turn the highs down a bit ...but I quite like this combo KR-V106R and DT880 Premiums .. I'm seriously considering a tube amp for them also... similar options to what you've been.

Yeah, including the posts on this page, I've read a lot of people recommend the bottlehead crack. Wish I wasn't a busy uni student and decided to take a minor in electrical studies

The DT880 was my first headphone starting out in this hobby.  I paired it with the Little Dot MKIII and it sounded great.  I also have the 650's paired with the BHC which pretty much can't be beat in my opinion.  But I'd fully recommend the LD.  It will power your 880's just fine and it's a great sounding amp with lots of tube rolling options.  I've had mine for about 4 years with no issues.  I only pull it out on occasion as the BHC fills most of my needs now but it's a great amp.
