I got my friend a pair of DUNU Tridents for Christmas, but he said he went out for a jog the other day and the left side suddenly stopped working. So now I'm wondering what I should advise him to get? His budget is probably around $50 and he hasn't really experienced a good IEM/earbud other than the Tridents. Any suggestions on what he should get?

SoundMAGIC e10 is often recommended for budget users....

Soundmagic E30 & E10, MEElectronics A151 & CC51, Brainwavz M4, all these provide good SQ and currently cost < $50 at Amazon. Your friend should consider Brainwavz M1 & M2 as well. And if he can stretch his budget a bit...I would recommend Vsonic GR06. It all depends on what sound signature he prefers. Check out their reviews here.

Your friend should consider getting ear guides for his IEMs to lower the chances of them falling out or undergoing stress while he's jogging. He could order three pairs in a pack from MEElec for pretty cheap.
