I am a jazz double bassist, so it will be of no surprise that I am looking for an IEM that has excellent bass representation. What I really want to hear, though, are all those sounds that are so endearing to acoustic bassists: wood, air, fingers on strings, minute buzzes and fingerboard noise (those signature noises that differentiate a double bass from other types of basses).

My first foray into the audiophile end of earphones is a pair of Shure SE535's that I've had for 3 weeks and which I truly enjoy. They put me into catatonic bliss on a recent airline flight.

It is unfortunate for my wallet that I found this forum, because now I wonder if I can hear even MORE with higher end IEM's... I even covertly got my ear molds made and they are hiding quietly in my cupboard.

I have read as much of the recent threads as possible. Should I get the JH16's ? I am worried that the JH13's won't have enough bass for me, which seems ridiculous considering the great reviews. Are these IEMs totally a waste of money if 90% of my listening is from my iPod?

Thanks!
