Hi all,

Am looking to get myself a couple of decent pairs of budget headphones.

Firstly, I have a massive head (don't laugh, at 6ft 7in I would look silly with a small one) and big ears.
I want some over-ear phones that have a large recess for my ears to fit into.

The first pair I am after would be for when I am out and about purely listening off of my iPod. I'm guessing closed back so that no-one can hear what I am listening to and I can't hear any external noise.

The second pair would be for indoor use, plugged into my amp, listening to vinyl.

Both pairs would need to fit my big head/ears and be within no more than £150 a pair.

Please throw your recommendations at me :)

Thanks!

You can just get one headphone, and one that might fit in case you can't try them out - the circumcaural Beats headphones. NBA players use them so that's an indicator that they might fit, although they keep their hair very short if not shaved.

You could probably find these in stores and try the fit and sound. If they fit right and you don't hate the sound, might as well get something that you know fits well enough.

If you want to gamble on something else that you probably won't be able to try, the big problem is that there's practically nothing that's really huge for that price that will be useful for such requirements. At best maybe get an HD600 and stretch it out, then get a cheap IEM for use on the go; or better, get an HD700, stretch it out, and then spend on a cheap IEM later.

Alternately you can just consolidate your budget and get a better IEM. As much as it won't eliminate fit issues given they'd still have to stick into your ears (and then you'd need a good, very low noise, low gain amp, like a custom O2, to drive them without problems), the headband size seems to be more likely source of a problem than an IEM that might not fit in your ear conch.
