Hello headfi community!

I was really hoping someone could recommend some over the ear headphones under 150. I've used and loved the hd598's in the past and am tempted to just buy them again, but would like to try something new.

Also, I recently tried on ear headphones (audio technica ath m30x) and wow that was a poor experience. I certainly learned on ear is definitely not for me as my ears very quickly get sweaty, hot, itchy, and uncomfortable.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Oh, and I wish I knew, haha. I'm not experienced in headphones enough to know exactly the signature I'm after. However, I'm OK with less bass and more emphasis on miss and highs. Of course, I would like the bass to be punchy and not muddy.

I know it's a little above budget but Soundmagic HP150 is pretty nice. If you want open there is Soundmagic HP200 which costs a little more. They both don't need amp.

AKG K553 over at Massdrop fits your budget and has the sound signature you want. It's supposedly an updated version of the AKG K550: http://www.head-fi.org/t/760386/new-release-the-akg-k553-pro-featuring-a-killer-massdrop-deal Looks like it will sell for around $200, so $139 a very good deal. For the difference in money, I'd go with these over the HP150s (I own the HP150s and the K550s).

Definitely a used DT770 (80 or 250). I believe anything new listed at under $150 is going to be too lacking in some way.

K553 as an update to K550 is not going to be "too lacking" in comparison to the DT770. Given that the OP wants more emphasis on mids and highs than bass, the v-shaped signature of the DT770s are probably not a good choice for him.

Ahh, I only read the original post at first so I missed out on his criteria.

I guess the K553 is an exception to the under $150 rule that I set for myself even though it'd normally go for higher. The AKGs are a good bet then. Got my K550s for $70 so OP should look for those used too.

Emphasis on Mids and High but still good Bass and open back? Sounds like a ATH-AD900X is right up your ally. They also have a GREAT soundstage which is good for gaming. And a good price to boot at around $150 for new. $100 area for used and I believe someone it selling some in the for sale thread right now.
