I have never heard any of Stevie Ray Vaughan's music but I know he's one of the greats

I have found STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE - GREATEST HITS CD on ebay for 8 bucks. Should I get that? Or is there a specific album that you would recommend?

Pick up any, this guy is incredible, and he only released a few albums, all are pretty good IMO, with the exception of Family Style, that I do not like it too much.....Among my favorites is one with Albert King, Sessions, first extremelly well recorded, and second, pure blues...I love it, but Texas Flood, is a very good one....

As mentioned in another thread, I just purchased "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble". Sonics were awesome. Recommended starter CD for anyone looking for a good "swig" of SRV.

(2 CD set, found at Walmart, so it's definitely available)

Find the Carnegie Hall cd. While Stevie made some good studio albums, IMO he was all about the live performance. Clapton, in talking about SRV, said that most performers (including himself) take a few songs to get in "the zone" on stage, if they ever do. He said Stevie was the only guy he ever knew who was there from the first note he played. Also check out the "Live at Macambo" and "Austin City Limits" dvds. The latter has both of Stevie's two shows, one very early in his career and the other late in his career. Killer stuff!
