Hi all. I've always been into house/dance music but the other day my friend had a mix CD of trance-type stuff and I just loved it. He recommended me some Oakenfold, but honestly I like deeper stuff. Like really far out kinda trance, if that makes sense. I have a hunch that head-fi members can recommend some awesome stuff... Then I can head over to FYE or the local LP shop and buy away. Please share your favorites! Thanks in advance.

George Acosta Present the History of Trance 1993-2004

I can really warp away into tracks two and three, and they are some of the cleanest good-feeling vibes I've ever experienced in trance

All in all, it's a good 2cd album- good mixing and showcases a lot of older trance with unique styles that just do not exist anymore

Edit: comment to add - Infected Mushroom is Psytrance, which is quite different from Trance, though I would recommend them to anybody because their quality is just not in question

Sorry about my ignorance but such a thing really exists? I was more under the impression that all that kind of music was more for disco use and dancing than for a deep reflection...

Vicious Spiral made some great stuff, really deep. Not deep bass, or what not, well that too, but the layers and their intertwining, etc.. how he builds up from the most random things, or to them.. like fraggle rock

).. not too trivial to find, since he'd hardly released anything (you know, the guys on acid for a few years, does some touring, then moves on).. and now he's under under ground. hmpf. He's one of my favorites with a whole bunch of danish guys who really had it going, the Aarhus crew, who even studied sound engineering, etc.. a bunch of tripped out hippies that know what's up. Halyta is cool too(finnish). Jahbo has a few cool tracks. Oh my.. it's been years since I was submerged... Texas faggot.. umm..
Try see if you can find any of that stuff

Actually, haltya has been pretty media active with a few releases. He's very melodic and hippy, influenced by some kiddy boing boing stuff with a synthesizer from years back (I cant remember who), I often enjoy it but it pisses me off sometimes... he's more fun than deep and his morning sets LIVE kick ass (and always get shut down by cops here, grr).. lol, then you have to wonder around thinking what the heck to do with the rest of your mind for the next few hours.. lol. ja know..

I wish I could remember names, I'll have to look at some old hard drives or something, but you'd be surprised. You get some guys basing things on mathematical algorithms, etc.. some crazy stuff when you get into it.

I actually can't stand house and the likes. I can't stand most types of trance either. I hate full on, the stuff that tries to achieve a climatic sequence 90% of the time that has about 5 or 6 layers that you can keep track of in your sleep.. and predict <yawn>.

The stuff I liked most were the ones that, even after listening to them many many times, you'd pick up another sequence going on.. things with quite a hand full of things going on, and not just all mushed up, sometimes beautifully intertwined.. melodic, with personality. More into the psytrance scene...

I meant deep as in, terxtured, layered musical rhythms which put you in a trance. See, once its dark outside and I throw on my headphones thats what I want . Seriously. Thanks for the tips guys I'm gonna check all of these out.

Here are some rather 'entrancing' electronic albums that are NOT meant for the dancefloor. Maybe better for nocturnal headphone sessions.

-Steve Roach & Vir Unis - Body Electric
-Steve Roach & Jeffrey Fayman - Trance Spirits
-Byron Metcalf & Steve Roach - The Serpent's Lair
-Son Dha - Red Sector A Speeds Up Alio Die
-Vir Unis & James Johnson - Perimeter I,II,III
-The Elf Machine - 2012
-Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?

Shpongle is probably some of the best goa and goa is some of the best trance, so I will x3 on the Shpongle!

Other great goa artists are Infected Mushroom (classic), Growling Mad Scientists (hard), Saafi Brothers (ambient), and Ott (dub). Traditional trance is less my cup of tea, but some of it is ok sometimes. BT stands out.

Trance is not nearly the focus of my collection & interest, but I hope I've added a couple more good ones to the list.
