Could you give me suggestions for some good and cheap online electronics and computer store in Canada? I mean something like Compuplus or Bestbuy or Amazon in the US. I don't want to order from US to avoid customs costs. Thanks.

Have you ever ordered something costing more than $100 from US? How much is the customs for expensive items like that?

BTW: Compuplus or Amazon US don't ship to Canada, do they?

You'll likely have to pay 7% GST plus brokerage fees. Brokerage fees vary. Post Office is cheapest at $5.00. Fed-Ex is around $25 and UPS can charge as much as $37 .... even if there are no duties involved. Most items now days come in duty free depending on where they are manufactured. U.S. and Mexican manufactured products are definately duty-free because of free trade, and many other countries are non-duty as well, but it is charged on items from some countries. The amount varies with the cost of the item and what exactly the item is. Usually 2-5%.

Most likely you'll only be charged GST + brokerage. Again, post office is by far the most reasonable.

UPS can and will gouge up to at least 60% of the value of the item for their "brokerage fee", and they don't honour insurance on items brought into the country.

Avoid UPS like the plague, and Fed Ex is only worth it for high value items.

For the record, I bought an iPod from a guy in the US a while ago and the dude put a 250$ value on the box (even though I paid 160$ for it). He shipped it with UPS (DOH!) and it ended up making me pay 103$ more just for the brokerage/duty/etc. fees. I was pretty darn mad, and made the guy pay half of it.

So avoid UPS, yes.

And BTW, BestBuy *does* own Future Shop
