I just got into the world of SACD, and while collecting albums that I like is easy, I am a classical music n00b and I really want a Classical music SACD that is easy to get into for a n00b and also serves as a reference for SACD classical music.

Surround sound is not a priority, I only listen to SACD's in stereo anyway.

As the title suggests, recommend me one reference quality Classical music SACD that is also easy listening and easy for a classical music n00b to appreciate. I tend to prefer dark melancholic/sad tunes more, if that helps.

Thanks

Julia Fischer - Russian Violin Concertos. Here is a link.

Phenomenal album IMO, both the material and the performance (not to mention the recording - though I believe she is moving away from Pentatone now

Gold standard for sound for me is Ivan Fischer's version of the Mahler 2nd Symphony. Not exactly dark or melancholic as a piece of music but a spectacular recording and interpretation.
