x2. Can't go wrong with these. They are excellent

both the 3021 and 3221 is still within budget...for 20bucks more, i think the 3221 may be a better buy. I'd drop by a local store to check them out. Which head should I be looking for? I'm not a big fan of ball head though

I recommend the 3001 to 3021 series. I use a 3021 Pro at work, and it's very steady. I would get a 3 way head instead of the 2 way head because it's more flexible at positioning when you're not on level ground (which is why ballheads are more useful). What's nice about the 3021 Pro is it's ability to position the vertical column into horizontal for those vertical shots. If you can spare another $100+, B&H is selling a 3021 kit w/ carrying bag.

The only tripod I would recommend in that price range is a Tiltall. A bit idiosyncratic, though.

Cheap tripods are a false economy - I went through 3 Manfrottos before I gave up and got my current Gitzo 1127 with an Acratech head. The price of the Manfrottos combined is roughly the same as the Gitzo leg set. The basalt Gitzos are almost as light as the carbon fiber ones, and much cheaper.

Is this for a still camera?

What happened to the Manfrottos? Did they break?
