The FiiO E10K is not something I would use to drive 300-Ohm headphones (Sennheiser HD600/HD650/HD6XX)

It might help to know if you have any preference for headphone surround sound.
Essence STX uses Dolby Headphone.
Titanium-HD uses CMSS-3D
Newer Creative cards (Z, Zx, ZxR) use SBX.

Love the HD650s,great headphones, but not for gaming.

I would look into the AKG K702/K712 or for more bass response the Fidelio X1/X2

What deficiency in your current setup are you trying to address?

Your MB is modern and it's on-board audio looks acceptable based on reviews from tech sites. And your headphones are very well regarded for gaming purposes, with it's main downsides being the lack of bass and those love-or-hate "wings". I can understand it if you wanted to listen to music, or produce audio/video, on your PC too, but seems a bit overkill for a pure gaming setup to get new headphone, amp, dac and soundcard.

NB: You don't need a separate soundcard if you already have a DAC... the Modi Uber will either connect with USB or SPDIF.

ONLY for PC gaming
Currently onboard from Asus Rampage V extreme with Audio-Technica ATH-AD700
...
Just bought Schiit Modi 2 Uber and Magna 3 for Amp and DAC

Thinking
Massdrop HD Sennhesier 650s - $200 (changed to something else)

Gaming only, please help me :)[/COLOR]

Save your money and keep using the AD700. Maybe sell the Magni3 and Modi2 and get the SoundBlaster X AE-5.

Can I use the onboard sound from my PC, or do I need a soundcard?

Depends, if you connect the Modi to the computer using USB, the audio will bypass any sound card (on-board or add-on) functions.

If you connect the Modi using optical, then you can use the features of the on-board sound card or any sound card you add to the computer.
Low cost Asus xonar DG or DGX sound card will give you Dolby Headphone surround sound.
A Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z (OEM and used is fine) will give you SBX Headphone surround sound.

Which is better for gaming?
Dolby Headphone surround sound OR SBX Headphone surround sound?
AKG 712 and Schiit Modi 2 Uber and Magna 3 AND a buttkicker Gamer 2

I believe the Creative Z series (SBX) is a little more liked, for surround sound gaming, then Dolby Headphone.
