What I would like is something like the Sony MDR-V6's sound signature but WITHOUT the heavy bass.

The V6 is known for a very bright sparkly treble - I want to keep that but lose the bass!

Ideally the suggested headphone would be in the same price range as the Sony V6 as well...

Headphones like the AKG K271 / 272HD lack bass, so can sound bright, but actually their treble is laid back as well. I want to find a headphone with a very forward treble.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

I believe that Sony's brand new Z series of monitoring headphones might be what you are looking for.
As you can see by the following graph, the Sony Z1000(Green+black) has just a touch less bass, but seems to sacrifice a bit of mid-treble compared to the Sony V6(Red+blue). [Click to make it bigger]

(Also, the Sony ZX700 has a very similar frequency response, but is much cheaper. You could probably actually find a demo unit in your local Best Buy. Two Best Buys near me have them for demoing.)

Sadly, I haven't heard either of the headphones. But I just wanted to suggest them based on what I have heard.

Edit:
Here is a thread that compares the Sony ZX700 to the V6. They say that the V6 has more sparkle and a more tight bass than the ZX700. So I might have been wrong.

Have you tried EQing the V6?

Try the KRK KNS-6400 or 8400.
The 8400 has much more sparkly treble than the 6400, but both would please treble-heads I think.
The 8400 and 6400 don't have any mid-bass hump, but the 6400 has more mid-bass than the 8400 (somehow).
The 8400 also might have more forward upper mids than the 6400.

6400 is $80-$90 and you can even upgrade it with memory foam pads. The 8400 is definitely worth the upgrade.

Strangely enough, the ZX700 doesn't have enough treble for me.

You can also try the Koss Pro DJ 100 as an alternative to the V6. Less mid-bass, but slightly more rolled off treble than the V6. Less fatiguing for sure.
There's more treble when using M50 pads.

Very best,

+1 with Mal' here - not familiar with the Sony but this one would surely have to deserve a look-in.

Hey tdock, i think I read one of your reviews/comments on the DJ100 and you said the sound was concentrated firstly on the mids, then the bass, then the treble.

That puts me off.

Do you think the DJ100 is still a bright/analytical 'phone in general though?

Recommend closed, very bright, detailed headphones = srh940.
But I  tried to get rid of this too bright nature by modding them
