Due to unforseen circumstances I am kindly asking headfiers about a mid/high end tube amp. I mainly use grado headphones as I like their sound and listen to all sorts of music. I am in the final process of securing a high end source so the amp will have to perform like wise. The amp suggested must be able to run on 220v-240v 50hz power supply. I think I can stretch my budget to £800-£1000 which is about $1500-$1800. Any suggestions would be mych appreciated.

Personally I would say that is a high end amp, if you buy right. Contact Mikhail at SinglePower.com and tell him your budget and he will just automatically give you the biggest bang for the buck. Try for a HD 40 from Craig at EddieCurrent.com. Be sure and tell them your power supply plug in voltage requirements. (End of story)

All roads lead to Mikhail for a tube amp in that range. I know of at least 2 Head-Fi members who sold their E.A.R. HP4’s and use the SDS (I think) now. That says a lot since the E.A.R. HP4 was considered the pinnacle of tube headphone amps at one time.

Good Luck with it.

I dont think you need to spend that much on a tube amp to get great sound. The singlepower ppx3 and mpx3 will do nicely. Looking at your profile you would benefit most from a source upgrade. Get a good tube amp like the ppx3 at $550 or mpx3 at $850 vs $1500-1800 for a singlepower supra, and use the savings for a good source. For instance, there is a nice modded music hall cd-25 in the for sale forum for around $725. That player is not the right voltage, but something like that cd player, with a ppx3 or mpx3, will give you better sound for your money vs spending all the money on the amp and keeping your current source. IMO of course.

Thanks for the advice but I am currently trying to secure a purchase on a high end cd player. I have been searching for this cd player for four years now and there;s a slim chance I might get it. It is a marant cd 7. There were only 700 ever built and I have always dreamed of owning one. Sure there are better players. I was even offered a marantz SA-1 for a very good price but the marantz just captivates my imagination. Any insight on this is more than welcome.

Please do not ask about the rudistor amp. If I comment any more on that subject then I face a ban and legal action.I have no comment regarding that subject anymore. Kind Regards.
