I'm looking to drop 50-150$ on a sound card for music only. Please recommend a sound card. I was thinking about getting the audiophile 192. I currently have a pair of Technics RP DH 1200's and a Fiio E5 amplifier. I listen to 95% Trance and Hardstyle. I also record mixes with Virtual DJ so I want the highest sound quality possible (since Virtual DJ records from master out). I don't have a PCI express slot.

pci-express? for audio? (LOL!!)

pci is even overkill for audio.

my pick for pci is the cmedia 8738 (old chip but well supported). envy24 chips (many cards) are better but cmedia is fine enough and also bit perfect.

I would never burn (lol) a pci-e slot for audio. that's just nuts

usb is another way to go; but it sounds like you prefer an internal card (which is fine).

pci-e is huge overkill.

not saying it won't work. it will work

but its a sledgehammer approach and a waste of such a high speed slot on such a simple task (audio is simple).

audio used to be an ISA slot task, so you can see that even pci is more than it needs.

if you only have pci-e, then use what you have; but don't take valuable pci-e slots JUST because you think it will be better than pci. it won't.

What else do you need your PCI-E X1 slots for? PCI-E is the future while PCI is on its way out. It may not be better, but it is more future proof. It isn't overkill if you don't use them anyway.
