The above bands all have the outstanding Tracy Hitchings on lead vocals, this lady is seriously underrated in todays music business.

Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love. the obvious pick ofcourse, and shame on you if you don't already have it!

Loreena McKennitt can't be recommended enough

Just make sure you don't miss:

Lucy Kaplansky. A New York singer songwriter to die for. She has recorded four albums to date the best being EVERY SINGLE DAY and TEN YEAR NIGHT. Very post-modern albums with great recordings and very good tune and words to boot.


Alison Krauss. Anuything from her and Union Stationa and Alison with the Cox Family is sure to float your boat. This is female vocals / bluegrass at its very very best.


Natalie Merchant. To me she has released some great albums, but solo and with 10,000 Maniacs. Look out for the solo albums Tigerlilly and Ophelia along with the 10k Maniacs albums Blind Mans Zoo, Our Time In Eden and In My Tribe.


Shawn Colvin. Another evergreen talent and a much looked over on at that. Get the albums Fat City and a Few Small Repairs and you'll know what modern singer-songwriters sound like. Fantastic artist.


Trish Murphy. Trish who? Trish is sort of like Sheryl Crow but she sing! She can play guitar, write and she's prettier. A bit of an unknown at the moment but this live album will whet your appetite for listening to Rubies On The Lawn and her self titled album.


Cowboy Junkies. If Margo Timmins on The Trinity Sessions doesn't melt your heart then you haven't got one. You're the tin man! Seriously though, this is a must have album, the songs are to die for and the recording quality is superb. Another classic album everyone should own.
