I have done some reading on this site and others (headroom) and think my top choices will be Etymotic Research ER 6 and Shure E2C. My needs are

1.Something portable that I can carry every day on the train with me,
2.Durable enough so the cords etc are designed in such a way that its meant to be packed/unpacked several times.
3.Take with me on flights so should have airline adapter etc. I will likely be taking a portable USB/DAC with me so its ok if it doesn’t sound the best without it but ideally would sound pretty decent. I have seen USB DAC combo’s on ebay like Xwave, how are these sonically and what is the forum to research USB/DAC combo’s/
4.Noise isolation. As this is primarily for travelling (could do double duty as my office setup as well, I use Grado SR 60’s at work) and design (that’s why I chose in ear) or features should provide a decent degree of noise isolation/reduction.
5.SQ is a high priority also as I have a decent home rig and do appreciate music sound good. (Electrostat speakers at home and prior to that Vandersteen 2Ce’s for reference)

So suggestions in terms of phones to get and or my approach is much appreciated. For eg, should I be looking at the next level up of phones ie Shure 4, or 5 series and or the Ultimate ear series as they do all the above and provide much better sound quality for a little bit more $$. I would like to spend as little as possible and given that these are travel phones definitely $300 or less is my upper limit, (initially was thinking $100 or less) and hence the choices above which are available at several online sites from $60-$75 usually.

Thank you very much for your help and advice.
