I just decided to run my Senn HD600's out of my 1970's Pioneer 4-Channel QX-949 Receiver. I was quite stunned at first. While the noise floor was rather high (probably due to an outdated power supply), the sound was so airy and laid back. It totally wowed me at the ease that this receiver drove my phones. I had the volume pot at about 1/8 the max. While the soundstage was nowhere as deep and upfront as it was with my Meta42, it was so relaxed.

Just to make my point, I can probably listen for about an hour before getting fatigued. However, out of my receiver, I feel like I can listen for the entire day.

I don't know what to do any more!?!?! Do you think the Meta42 could be outpaced by a vintage receiver? I though no headphone jacks were supposed to compare to amps?
