i need something like a nad l40 that is in current production and has a dvd changer. does any hometheater in a box do 2 chan stereo with binding posts and sub rca out?

i know it is a joke to power high end speakers with one of these. at least it will not fry them. i don't have enough room for seperates where i want to put this. the minisystem i mentioned earlier has so little headroom it will blow speakers in no time.

i will have to put my 24" lcdtv ontop of it. i could do seperates, if combined not more than 10" high.
i don't care what it costs just tell me what fit's the bill.

thanks,

i just saw that only very expensive hometheater in a box have binding posts and a rca sub out. it would be a waste of money to throw away the junk 7.1 speakers.

i could do a small yamaha/sony receiver and a slim dvd changer. this is not going to be very good quality. it is small.

i am playing this at about 70db. i can hear it running out of steam. in my experience that is death for the speakers.

as you all know, it is distortion that kills speakers regardless of volume or power.

i wonder if i get a cheap receiver if i will have the same issue. they may have another 40 watts over the denon. in a $200 receiver that might not mean anything good.

edit: i am not playing very loud at all. i guess higher end speakers need some serious headroom. i can hear the tweeters just falling apart. i am going to stop. the issue is if a 50 watt $200 yamaha receiver will have the same problem. 50 watts is not the same everywhere it can be had of course. i have no problem getting them a $800 second hand integrated, i don't have the room!

i was correct but i already knew that. a decent 40 watt receiver is too bulky for my space. a small/cheap 40 watt receiver is still trash just a little more wattage.

the hometheater systems that advertise absurd wattage are more or less bs advertising. we don't need to discuss that now.

so, if i just use my old onkyo mini seperates to power the speakers to 70db at 1 meter it is ok. it probably will not blow them at that volume. they are lacking most of the detail these speakers can provide however.

i am limited by space in this room so i will just have to deal with it. it could be worse. at least i don't have to live with one of those $99 bookshelf systems.

powering these focals with the onkyo(22w@10%thd>6ohms) is intresting.
the polks that came with the onkyo sound a lot better with it than the focals lol.

all kinds of junk on the dresser in the bedroom lol.

anyhow, i decided to do what i needed to. i cleared off all the "nik naks" and got some proper seperates to power the focals. $400 of electronics seems to turn those into $50 speakers. they need some current. now they have it. that settles that!
