After making search in head-fi.org I have decided to buy a Sony D-465 discman (thanks Duncan for great reviews). Received my discman yesterday and I am comparing it against my Iriver imp-550. Hope to write a review comparing them. Sony sound is awesome. No need to amp my KSC-35's. Incredibly powerfull discman. Lineout quality is nearly the same and strong as headphone out. Has nice features in a simplistic body. But I think imp-550 delivers more detail (especially in the highs and bass section). D-465 cost me only 44 USD including shipment (I bought them in Turkey). Its sound quality is not comparable to its price

The person whom I received it said that he bought it from US. So its without remote. I felt asleep while listening to music with D-465 and KSC-35's last night. I have to listen a lot before any review. I will inform in the future.

PS: I will receive my AKG K340 on Thursday. I have received my Neutriks, techflexes and will receive silver plated copper wires and Mogami Neglex soon. I am into DIY. Thank you head-fi! I have a new hobby now!!

Cool... I'm enjoying some PCDP love myself with the Kenwood DPC-61. One day I would like to hear the D-465.

I find it typical that newer DACs are more detailed than the vintage ones. IMO that's one of the few major advantages they have though... as long as it's early 90s or newer, you can find some excellent DACs that image well and are very smooth and pleasant to listen to. Earlier than 1990, I think DACs get progressively worse (in my limited experience). The really old all-metal PCDPs are built very solid and have interesting features, but typically they don't sound too good.

BTW, my father is Turkish (I can't speak the language though)... he came to the U.S. in the early 1960s, as part of the Turkish air force (married my mother and ended up staying). He changed his last name to an Americanized spelling so people could pronounce it, but it was originally Göçmez.

I think I like the sound of the D-465 more and more... When I turned back home today I preffered it over my imp-550. May be in time something will change. Anyway the player is awesome for the price. Chat 7, can you please compare it to D311 (if you remember the sound though). D311 was one of the players I was looking for.

BTW: FEWTCH, its great to find someone Turkish (even from the father) in head-fi.org. I am really happy now

The D465 is one of only two Sony Discmen that I would actively look out for if I didn't already have it (the other is the D211, but that is a matter of personal preference over the D311 - and both the D465 and D211 are on the sensible side in terms of cost).

Congrats on what is a good price for a great player

Thank you Duncan,
Its because of your lenghty and great reviews. Every evening when I turn back home I listen to it and try to compare it to my imp-550. Sound from the D-465 gives me a feeling that I am playing the cd in a full-sized player. I use the volume between minimum and 2 mark of this player. Its incredibly powerfull!
