Ripping DVD's are perfectly legal (at least here in Norway).
While downloading Mac OS X via BitTorrent, as you suggested in the above linked thread, are illegal.

oh, the same make as my iphone converter, avex, though im having a job getting the avi output to line up with sound, its ok in mpeg but avi seems better quality

i still dont quite understand how those work, and ill consider it if i can get my head round it cause the non syncing is very irritating
