Hey Head-Fi, loooooooong time no see :-)

I was very active on here back in the day. In fact when Googling around on "Grado HF-1" my old review showed up on the first page, ha!

Anyway, hard to believe I've had these for 11 years. Though after all those years the cabling is starting to short out around the Y-connector. Time to recable them out of necessity at this point.

I'm not shy with this type of thing - used to make my own Sennheiser cables and still dabble in electronics in the Arduino/R-Pi world of things. My main question is opening the cups - it's just hot glue from what I can tell, hit it with a hair dryer and they should pop open. But before I ruin these irreplaceable cans wanted to see if anyone has insight into opening Grado wood cups.

Thanks!

For anyone who comes across this it was very easy to get the cups off with a hair dryer. I more or less followed what is seen in this tutorial. Tried to avoid aiming directly into the driver but rather at the sides/table.

And here's some blasphemy...I recabled them with a spare Sennheiser HD-650 cable. It's now a Frankenstein! Sounds just as it good as it used to.
