Recabling AKG Sextetts?

Funny that this showed up. I just finished recabling a fellow Head-Fi'ers 240s and I must say it responded quite nicely. Upon first listen I wasn't too impressed by them but after recabling they've come to life IMO. More open sounding and lively. I prefer more bass presence but what is there sounds pretty darn good. Nice soundstage to.

My favorite cable for headphones is Mogami's mini mic quad which is what I used for this project. Yes, I direct wired to both drivers.

As a side - and I plan on posting this in a new thread - I found the perfect replacement for the elastic. I had to work on the plastic discs that hold the elastic so I could replace them but man was it worth it!

The point of recabling the Sextetts is that their stock cable has **** build quality.

Plus mine is disgusting.

I think the AKG god Fitz does it, but I'm not sure (hasn't responded to my PM, yet), Alex at A Pure Sound does it, and others probably do it too.

Yeah, I PM'd Fitz about Sextett re-cable a while ago... I don't think he likes to respond to PM's...

By the way I noticed warrior05 said that he just finished cabling a pair of K240s. I have several headphones cabled by Scott, not to mention ICs and power cords he's made me. He does excellent work, with a real eye for detail, and most important his cables sound good! warrior05 and Fitz are my cablers of choice.

Hey guys, what's better for the sextetts.. A single recable on the left driver, like a normal cable, or Double cable on both drivers like the Y cable? Or is there no difference?

I don't there's any real difference, but the Y cabling might make them more durable.

Who are you going to use, btw?

Mine are cabled dual entry (Y cable), mine are also cabled balanced, and I've never heard a stock or SE pair of Sextetts to compare them with. It would be nice to compare and see what balancing brings to the game for these headphones. It made a substantial difference in my K340.
Mine were cabled by Fitz (he refurbished a pair for me). I have three headphones cabled by Fitz and have had about half a dozen recabled by warrior05. They both make excellent cables, and you can't go wrong either way. I'd say they are both very similar in pricing, and are both great guys to do business with. They also both use non-microphonic nylon sleeving that I love.
