I started a thread concerning the strengths and weaknesses of Grado / Alessandro headphones, but it got me relatively no where. I want a pair of headphones that are airier than the HD 650's, but weightier in terms of bass than, say, the SR 225 or MS1. I'll probably be pairing these with an LDM tube; though I won't go into detail about amps in this forum. Anybody care to lend some suggestions?

Edit: I'm getting more information now, so I'll see where that goes before bumping this thread again.

Beyerdynamic DT990 new '05 edition perhaps? They have weighty bass and should have bright airy treble.

Those are some tough requirements to fill. None of the headphones I own fit that description. However, I seem to remember a few people saying the GS-1000 is strong on the highs and lows. I haven't heard one, but maybe that would be the headphone for you. Take a look at the reviews.

Also, there are some people who like to run the K-1000 with a subwoofer. Maybe you could explore using a sub along with your cans to get the bass you want.

From your sig I can see that you own a pair of RS1's, and these are the phone's I'm looking into most. How would you characterize their sound?

The HD600's definitely seem brighter and more airy than the HD650's, while still having great bass and mids.

The AD2000's are even more so - very similar to the HD600's, or RS-1's, but with a bit more detail and air. And they're very comfortable.

The RS-1's are awesome, but don't seem to have as much air as those above.
