So I've been listening to some MS-1s for two years now, and I'm ready to try something different. I like their sound, but I'd like to branch out and try something a little different.

Last month the postman brought me an iBasso D1, and it's gonna be my only amp at least until the middle of 2008. The iBasso was a great improvement with the MS-1s over the Macbook Pro internal soundcard. I'd like to get some headphones that would agree with the D1 and still have room for improvement with a nicer non-portable amp down the road a bit.

My music tastes are extremely varied, although the bulk of my listening is rock and jazz.

I've been looking hard at the DT-880s and the K-701s, although I've been told recently that the K-701s really need a good amp to sound great. Would the DT-880s be more tolerant of my D1, until I can upgrade later?

My wallet is very strictly limited to $350, and I'm really not interested in used phones -- I get a lot of enjoyment from listening through the burn-in.

Thanks again guys,
Mike

Hmm I currently run K701 off of BADA PH-12 tubes at home and that does a wonderful job - when I mate it to my portable amp - Meier MOVE - it sounds all right and can be driven okay.

DT880s - from what I have heard - is little easier, but I never tried a D1 before, so I can't say for sure
