Yeah, I just went back to the site, I didn't see the sr-71 before. What type of amp are these, Pimeta, PPA? I'm having a hard time comparing apples to apples because they seldom list exactly what type of architecure they utilize. It could very well be its just me too, I'm a complete newbie that is trying to figure all this stuff out.

The SR-71 is like none of the others you listed. It is a 2-channel dual mono design. The Pimeta and PPA are 3-channel designs in a stereo configuration.

The AE-1 isn't currently available. Justin is in the process of finalizing some design modifications. The amp is being improved with a 3 position gain switch, higher power output, calibrated volume pot, laser-etched faceplate, and probably a few other things as well. Current AE-1 owners get free upgrades to the new AE-1. He should be pretty close to being done with the mods, so hopefully he'll resume shipping soon.

Thanks for the info. So the shipped price of the Headamp AE-1 is $364. Anyone know whether or not these modifications will increase the price of the AE-1?

My personal experience with SM3-V6 is very positive - with all my headphones. The SM3V6 is very detailed, but still offer good texture, body. I am planning to get the max-out version with OP627.

Pocket Reference 2 is also something that one should take a serious look, despite it's slightly higher price than the rest of the gang, but for good reasons. I have listened to my PR2 for over 200 hours (burn-in over 350 hours) mainly with HD650 + some hours on A/T A900LTD and would say this is so far the best sounding portable amp I have - at least before the max-out module of SM3-v6 arrives. I am truly amazed. PR2 has that touch of warmth not normally found on portable amps. Its bass contour control is another unique feature not available in other portables. Imaging is also impressive (esp. in depth).

If you have the PR II already, why spend $450 on the SuperMacro v6 Maxxed when you can simply put a maxxed-out "module" into your PR II? 2 x OPA627 mounted onto a single-to-dual Brown Dog Adapter for the PR II. Just wondering.

I don't believe they will, but don't quote me on that. Anything is possible.

Compare the price and components of the Portaphile V2^2 to these other amps. Has 3 of the AD8610 Op-Amps and lots of buffering. Maxxed out version tops out at $250. Super performance/value for the price in my opinion.

For the last 3 weeks, every day. Yes, I've heard it. Sounds good to me. I keep it in wide bandwidth mode and class A biasing on.
