This is going to be a much bigger loss than most folks realize. He was right in the middle of negotiations to remaster most of his catalog(which he still owns) and Mr.Charles always did his own deals. He only used an lawyer to read documents and draft them on his behalf but he argued the terms for nearly every deal he was ever involved in. I was reading that he was in bad shape and would'nt last much longer but he was still mentally sharp and finalized the terms for his biography and Movie. That sounds like the Ray Charles I know and love.
He has been among my most favorite artists for decades. I can't think of anyone who has done better at crossing over between genres. I last saw him in concert about a decade ago. Even after decades as a performer he absolutely loved the audience and vice versa. There is no one better at blending blues, soul, and country and no voice better matched to do so.
