I tried playing Skyrim, but it's too dated for my taste to try them now. I got to the intro with the wagon and got off and tried the sword in 3rd person view. I couldn't do it. I knew it would be a janky combat experience, and the NPCs, my lord! Probably great for it's time, but having experience Fromsoft Souls games, I couldn't play Skyrim.
Skyrim is still a great game if RPG is your thing, but yes, Soulsborne games offer that extra.

Starfield feels like the type of game that you play exactly the way you want, whatever that may be.

I'm into this type of experience. I find this is what amazing looking is, with good gameplay mechanics. I can actually feel the combat. On skyrim, so janky... This is amazing fidelity.

I'm split as exploration is more enjoyed with Skyrim and combat mechanics more with Soulsborne.

Another great game this year is Baldur's Gate 3. If you are ok with turn-based.

My idea of good exploration is getting lost in a dungeon in Soulsborne. I personally don't like speaking to NPCs and going on fetch quests, no matter how open the world is. To me, these types of sims feel super fake. FromSoft keeps it very minimal, and it perfectly fits my taste. They generally get straight to the point with Soulsborne offering. Openworld in games like Starfield doesn't feel engaging to me. In Souldborne dungeons, I can easily get lost and need to keep track of paths, I have to look at very nook and cranny because you need important loots, and have to watch out for ambushes, and figure out how I can get past certain elite enemies. I don't get that from other games. Exploration just feel better with Soulsborne because it seemed to be planned out, and doesn't feel copy and paste. I disliked BOTW because the world felt copy and paste. In Soulsborne, they plan out everything so that you get the experence they've prepared for you. The enemy placements are deliberate.

You are a stubborn gamer. Ha. You know your lane.

Two mechanics I found hinderance in Starfield. I decided to get a trainer so I canny carry infinate items, as it seems like a waste to time to manage item weight and store them and pull them for selling. Why can't I have other suits so that I can switch back and forth? I guess I can stock it in the robot. My question would be, would the stats on the suits really matter in this game?

Another was infinate oxygen. The oxygen running out when running seems unnecessary.

There are a multitude of suit choices as well you can get a bag for carrying items beyond your stats. You can also utilize outposts, Vasco and ships for storage. You need multiple suits as you go off-world as the atmospheres are unforgivingly deadly.

Every aspect of the game can be exploited. I would recommend you try out a booster-pack and then look for the super-charge pack so you may play like Iron Man. It really is absurd.

Guys, if you are on PC, you can cheat with the console. Here are the commands. I cheat for anything that seams annoying like having to buy digi-lockpicks. I will just add infinite amount so I don't have to go to the store to buy them. lol You can't get achievements if the game detects you've used cheats. No code for the pesky oxygen limit, I use Fling trainer for that so I can run fast all the time. Also, I don't see the point of limiting ammo. I will just add ammo, I think it's a waste of time to simulate going to the store, it's dumb.

Annoyingly they let you sell the cutter. And I had to go back all the way to New Atlantis to buy back my cutter. Also, the same for lockpicks, so I decide to just cheat now. Going back and forth for little things like this seams a waste of time. This is why I hate sims like this. Lots of mundane stuff they think adds to the game.

Like with Baldur's Gate, I'm extremely split on Starfield. When it's clicking with me there's nothing like it. When it's not, it really gets on my nerves.

Oddly, the things most people are complaining about I have no qualms with. I don't care that some of the NPCs look weird. I not bothered by the fact that most of the space travel takes place in menus. I'm also fine with the copy-paste nature of the game. (Every Bethesda game has been like this.)

At this point I have two main gripes with the game: I hate that stealth basically doesn't work, and I can't stand the amount of weapon sway there is. I'm a little annoyed that enemies are such bullet sponges, but fixing the weapon sway issue would alleviate that. It seriously feels like my character is drunk or something. I get why it's there: they want you to feel like your character is improving as the game goes on, but between that and the stealth issue it feels like the game's mechanics are working against you.

Oh, I forgot, probably the biggest issue I have with the game is there's no meter for environmental protection for your suit. Huge, huge oversight. If you're on a planet with extreme weather or something you have no way of knowing how long your suit is going to hold out before you start picking up negative status effects. It almost feels like this mechanic was tacked on at the last minute.

I also don't like the space combat, but I can largely ignore it. It might be a bit of a hot take, but I don't think space combat has ever been fun in games.

On the upside of the game, the immersion is fantastic. While not absolutely bleeding edge, the graphics are very nice, with superb sense of scale, and varied locations. I get the sense Bethesda was really insulted by people making fun of Skyrim's towns' size, and decided to spite them by making cities actually huge and bustling. It's really a lot of fun just getting lost in cities or on random planets.

I also like the sheer breadth of things you can do in the game. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface, so I'm really looking forward to whatever mechanics it's going to throw at me next. Mission variety also seems to be pretty good, although I'm sure in typical Bethesda they'll start repeating themselves.

I will say the combat seems to be pretty satisfying, outside of the aforementioned issues. Guns generally have a good feel to them, and during firefights the AI is pretty impressive, with enemies frequently repositioning and trying to get the drop on you. It's also really neat that they seem to think in 3-dimensions.

What I don't get is, how is this 10 years of development?

I've been reading this is actually better than past titles in terms of bugs. Wow. I see a lot of jank in this game, especially in combat.

What did they spend 10 years on?!

Anyway, game is starting to get engaging after a slow start. But, this game is nothing new. Just add better graphics to 'Outer Worlds' and you have a better game. This game just edges out in certain technical chops, but some technical aspects are just not good. Look at the textures, and the big bulging eyes on NPCs. lol

It seems they added detailed textures to certain things, but there are others that don't have much details on them. Go near the lodge, and look at the textures on the grass. It's laughable. And that area is trash in terms of fps.

Based on the hype, I though they'd do something really revolutionary in terms of how it feels as a sim. You basically fast travel, and yeah, space combat is typically the same, it's hardly anything new.

This game is so low tech that it should run better. They just added certain reflection at certain things to make them look better, but it takes a lot more to make them look detailed. It's still fairly basic that it should run much much better.

I get a feeling that they spent too much budget on the project, going on for 10 years that MS pushed them to release. We'll see if they pull a 'Cyberpunk' and improve the experience over time.

They can't even give us proper gamma in the image, or provide HDR. They spent 10 years!

They are obviously limiting the performance due to being sponsored by AMD. There is no ray tracing in this game. A game that was trash technically was AMD sponsored, Jedi survivor, which ran like crap. I hate AMD for making games run like trash! Why do companies do this? There should be a law against graphics card company sponsorships.

I am so amazed what BluePoint achieve with the imaging of 'Demon's Souls' for PS5 at 60fps, and this is good 60fps, not the crappy frame pacing issues we see with today's PC games. When I started Demon's Souls remake on PS5, I was blown away. BluePoint pulling that level of performance out of PS5 is crazy. I'd like to see some technical achievements to that level, not the typical third person shooters showing off to be another sim. I need to see a good mix of art direction and technical abilities.

Decided I couldn't handle FSR anymore. It's way too shimmery on certain edges, and I've grown too used to DLSS removing that.

I came to the conclusion that DLSS 2 just isn't good enough, and opted for the DLSS 3 mod. I'm shocked that it actually works.

Are you on 4XXX series?
Even DLSS2 on 3080Ti is a huge improvement over FSR, but LUT color remapping takes the cake.

Yeah, 4090. I was getting about 45FPS at that location before, so with frame generation it's basically a 2.5x increase in performance.

One odd side effect is that when you move to a new area it takes a couple seconds for the frame gen to kick in.

Surprised 4090 cannot just run it at native.
