Rate my system in sig. What is the weak link and why?

Zu cable might be better? TBH, I don't know anything about after market cables. Your setup is very similar to mine and I doubt there is much of a weak link really.

Compared to the rest of your system, I would say the D-33... your source is the first thing I would upgrade, not that it sounds bad or anything. It's just in a different league.

haha, im part of team - sold everything to move out of country for the 4th time - so your source even now does not look too bad now. great start - if only judging by post-count!

Is there a PCDP thats worth upgrading to? Or would I need to go with std. size?

I've hooked everything up to my Rotel 1072. There was an improvement, but I'm not sure if I have the space for a bigger CDP.

Yeah, I'm not using the rotel now. The rotel is for the 2 channel system and the headphones are in the bedroom on an end table. Not much room to work with on the table.

Try an old Nec Multispin unit as a transport with an external dac, the transport can be found around $10 on eBay and get yourself a Micro Dac or something along those lines.

Yeah IMHO the D33 is your weak-point. I'm kind of partial to the Marantz decks. The ones I've heard had a really open, detailed sound.

If space is your concern, seek out a PCDP with optical output and pair that with a good DAC.... Sorry about your wallet

x2 on the NEC multispin, They use CD cartriges though, so you'll have to stock up on them. Clarke68 had one of those and it sounded really good.

Yeah, IMO the biggest weak spot, even more than source, is that you have only the one headphone. At this point a second pair with strongly different characteristics will really open up your possibilities.

I think your weakest point is your source.
A dedicated CD player will fix it.

When the cables cost more than the source, you know there's something inherently wrong.

If you have to stay portable, get at least a D-303.
