I spotted a pair of SR-325s on eBay .. these babies have the black air chambers and the price is really tempting.. I'm not the person selling them, I just thought to post a msg here in case anyone is interested.

Then those babies should come outfitted with the older flat donut pads (which are highly desireable) unless the user wore them out.

Well I just checked ebay and saw the item. The seller claims to have upgraded the earpads to the newer improved ones that are superior. Yeah sure they are (hah, hah, hah)!

And to think that last year if anyone got a black SR-325, they'd be worried that it wasn't an aluminum air chamber (but it was) - everyone wanted to get the ones with the silver colored air chambers.

I know nothing about the seller. I have a pair of these with flat pads & newer pads. If someone can get these near $100 it would be an excellent deal IMO. Mine are well broken in and they sound great. They are the most transparent phones I have when used on hard rock and music with impactful drums, great impact.

Just a note.....the flat pads are great while they are breaking in...and it takes awhile...after full breakin I prefer the newer pads.

The primary difference between these pads is specific to the distance they maintain the driver element from ones ear. So how does breaking in the pad change that fact?

It is the breaking in of the phone that makes the difference. A brand new 325 is very bright. The flat pads, because the driver is closer to your ear tame the brightness and increase the bass. After the phone is well broken in the phone is less bright and increases in bass. The flat pads sound dull and muddy to me at this point. Enter the new pads, with a well broken in phone they sound great. Be aware that this may be a minority opinion.
