Todd,

Do you think Ray would reconsider the length of the cord between the power supply and the Raptor HA? I have heard complaints that because it is so short that it limits installation options. I think the length should be similar to that of the HR2 which is sufficiently long to allow the amp to sit on a table and the power supply on the floor. This was one of the objection raised in the fine 6 Moon Review.

I am not Todd, but I think I can answer your question.

I doubt it.

I had a conversation with Ray regarding this exact question. He indicated that the power supply requires constant ventilation as it does run on the warmish side. He specifically recommends that the power supply unit NOT be placed on the floor, so he kind of forces the issue by limiting the legth of the umbilical cord. But give him a call, he is a lot of fun to talk to.

Well let’s see. It has to sit on some solid surface ( unless he is worried about rugs, which can be worked around) and when I looked at the picture of the power supply it was ventilated. It appears that it would get the same air flow or more sitting on the floor rather than sitting on the shelf of some rack. To me it does not make much sense to limit the length of the cord for ventilation purposes. I have talked to Ray in the past and he makes a great product, I have invested in two, but I do not think he is that flexible when it comes to modifications

He has to think of every possibility, both good and bad, that could occur with his products. His issue is safety, and I know he would be concerned about potential lawsuits if any product of his caused a fire.

The Raptor power supply gets pretty hot. Wish it did have a longer cable, but I just see it as Ray protecting himself and making a safe product that would be difficult even for an idiot to mess up.

Ray most likely thinks of worst case scenarios. Because sure enough if it had a longer cord some dumb head-fier would put it on the floor/stack something on the power supply and cause a fire. Then they would biatch and moan (or most likely sue!) that the manufacturer (RS) didn't give sufficient warning. You see frivilous lawsuits all the time. Jon has a good point. You should pick up the phone and talk to him. Easy to talk to and will better explain it than anyone.
