what is your guys opinions on blind hearing test from dap to dap, are the differences in most cases perceivable? Where does the law of diminishing returns come into play in blind heading tests with current daps on the market?
I am referring to daps and In Ear Monitors specifically, not daps and there abilities to do both traditional over the ear headphones and IEM combined.
Haha, even if the DACs don't sound different, the amp stage may result in different sounds.
For example, try demoing iBasso DX320, Sony NW1ZM2 and Shanling M9 together and I'm pretty sure you can pass double blind test on the sound difference.

The differences are definitely noticeable, every DAPs I tried sounds different enough for me to almost instantly pick out differences. With that being said, there are some that are quite similar to each other like Sony ones which you really have to pay good attention to differentiate them together.
In my experience, apart from sound signature, TOTL DAPs, in comparison to lower-end ones made by the same brand have some magic in that they make things sound really life-like, this is applied to both Sony DAPs I A/B tested which were the WM1A and WM1Z and ones form Caying, the Cayin N8, and the N6ii. Things at times literally feel like they are physical instruments floating in front of me, they are almost touchable! of course, they still sound tiny as expected. However, the realism is unbelievable. However, the realism is unbelievable. Again, this quality is not perceivable from lower-end models made by the same brand.

Oh, talking about diminishing returns, since I haven't experienced the realism I got from TOTL DAPs from mid-tier ones, I'm willing to pay extra costs for the TOTL ones without much thought about the returns. Currently, getting a TOTL DAPs is the only way to experience such quality.
I only listen to EDM, does having a Top of the Line(TOTL) Dap justify genre specific music. There are many variables that dont justify spending thousands of dollars for many buyers and I just wanted input as I want to invest in some Daps in the future but I dont want to throw money into the campfire either.
