I'm thinking of getting either another 600 or even a 650, and need a rackmount amp for an AV/computer rack rig I'm making (19 inch). It wouldn't matter much if it's tube or solid state (if there even exists any rack mountable tube amps), and I'd be willing to go some amount over $1000 if it's worth it/necessary. I currently have an Antique Soundlabs MKIII OTL, but putting that on a rack shelf would be less than ideal. And might anyone know of a forum that deals specifically with rack mountable gear?

Try a PreSonus Central Station. It's studio gear, so it comes with ears.

I had one awhile back when I ran computer-as-source and liked it quite a bit. It has two solid state headphone amps, a very capable DAC, and a nice relay-based attenuator so you can use it as a preamp. The Central Station doesn't get a lot of attention here these days, but it had a surge of interest a couple of years back. A few searches should find reviews and opinions on it.

You might also want to look into having an amp custom built into the rack enclosure of your choice. If you have an empty rack case you like, you can always send it to a builder and have whatever you want built inside.

Ah yes, custom building is another option. Do you know where I might find some rack enclosures for that purpose? And is a "half rack" enclosure a standard size? I'd really like to mount a really nice amp on the same shelf as a DAC1

Sorry if my questions are amateurish, but this is my first go at rack mounting.

*Didn't see the DIY forum, sorry
