Someone had asked how the Border Patrol DAC (NOS with tube rectification) sounds with the SR1a.

To my ears - Very Very good - More body/density than the Qutest while retaining excellent detail. Amazing what an inexpensive chip w/ a top notch power supply can do.

Note my Amp (Audiolab 6000A) is likely not optimal for the SR1a - waiting for the TI-1a/b to see how it sounds w/ the Niimbus.

Is ther any sonic differences or improvements between Sr1a and Sr1b?
Danny showed me the Sr1a and the Sr1b side-by-side and told me they are sonically identical. I thought the SR1b looked nicer. I have the Sr1a and have no need to change it.

I agree.

So, what are the differences between the SR-1a and the 1b?

Not very much, actually. The grille of the SR1 has been changed to match the grille styling of the CA1a and we replaced the internal copper wire (about 4 inches) with silver. The most significant change would be, for those needing a ribbon-to-amp interface, the original resistor interface has been replaced with our new transformer interface.
Sage, what was the rationale behind the change of the internal wire? Thanks.

Can anybody recommend a desktop amp stand for the Jotunheim R? Something stackable would be ideal since I have 3 components.

BTW - I noticed that Schitt is now selling the JR for $499.

I’m not Sage, but Aleksandr mentioned after months of making silver wires they had quite a few short silver scraps left over. Why not use them for internal wiring? It can’t hurt.

I use Monoprice monitor stands - they're not ideal but they're affordable and they're kind of attractive and unobtrusive.

Please note the bottom stand is longer and wider (30.8" x 11") than the top one, and probably far too big for your needs. The top one, with space enough for two Jot Rs adjacent to each other, is 22" x 9.5". The top one will provide you with just under 4" of height when measured from the underside of the glass top. Edit: sorry, I tried including links to them on Amazon but for some reason head-fi automatically re-routes the links to Walmart or eBay.

If you opt for these stands, I'd recommend buying them from Amazon rather than Monoprice. I ordered mine from Monoprice and, ridiculously, the end of the cardboard box it was sent in wasn't properly sealed, so one of the legs had fallen out in transit. They sent me a replacement. The exact same thing happened again, at which point I asked for a refund and purchased it through Amazon, which managed to tape up the box properly.

I always thought this was a really clean looking setup for a desktop rig.
