R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

yeah screen:body ratio is about 15% less lol

the image on the front of this thread is even more prominent, makes it look like the screen:body ratio is >90%

Sneaky! And unnecessary, because the ratio is already better than the other small daps like m9, sr15, m2s. Or is the new Shanling m2x? Anyways good catch, didn't even notice.

Exactly, completely uneeded

On another note, have you had a chance to mess with the EQ functions?

I've been using neutron, but I did test the mseb and 10 band, I like mseb better but the 10 band is pretty good.

I'm spoiled with neutron, but the mseb has some very nice dsp effects. The 10 band isn't as good as Sony's , but way better than ak's and better than fiio's.

Hope that helps.

I should say that if you haven't used the mseb before you can totally alter the sound, want a beefier, soft bass, and a more relaxed sound, you can do it. Want a really airy, neutral sound with quick response and forward sounding mids (vocals) you can do it. Etc, etc

And if you have used mseb before, it works exactly the same.

Also there is an audible pop after you pause a song or switch programs sometimes. Could be the amp going off, but it's annoying and I'm reporting it as a bug.

Where are you guys seeing the price? 900 is a lot. The only thing to be said there is that Sony makes some good devices. You know they'll last. It makes me worried they the hiby is having ui stutter out of the box. I also like the warmer sound of Sony daps. Idk. First world problems right guys.

Where did you find the left photo? I don't see such an oversize render anywhere on store.hiby.com or any recent facebook post.

Per whathifi...
"There's also 64GB of storage plus a microSD slot where you can playback from downloads too. It has a 3.6in HD screen, 20 hours of battery life and will come in at £750 from November 2019"

The HiBy R5 looks like a deal in comparison.

I think after a couple of more firmware updates the r5 will be squared away. I think they can make the coding more efficient for the UI, it's pretty smooth already. And hopeful just fix any loose ends, like the pops.

The zx500 is like the android zx300. 122 mm is too long for me. If I was going for a bigger android dap I'd get m11 or m11pro.

Plus you can still get zx300A from joybuy if you don't need android for about 350- 390 bucks. 900 is a bit too much.
