This was already posted with much debate in the Members Lounge.

Hi I'm Sparticus...

Those R10s... sure look nice, but... in the members lounge, it was being thrashed out as to whether we thought the seller was legitimate or not...

...I wonder what kind of equipment (Source - IC - Amp) you'd need to get them to their VERY best... let alone what CD / SACD etc....

Out of my range anyway... even at their current price

It seems to be you're asking the wrong person...

Yah sorry to say I dont actually own them I was merely pointing them out. As to the question as to what amp to use. Dang it would have to be big and expensive. I am just content with what I have.

I actually bid on this. Someone came in and bid at the last second and beat me. I'm kind of glad because I was a little uneasy about this anyway. If it is legit, I think whoever won got a good deal. Still, I have to question if these phones are truely new in the box. Based on the serial number they were made a long time ago.

Unless I'm mistaken about how reserve on eBay works I don't think anyone actually won the auction as reserve was not met.

yeah that's true the seller my re-list the item or sell it to the last high bidder. I would want a newer one at that cost. I have read the diaphram was made from "biocellulose" (whatever) and I would expect that to break down a little over time.

Sounds like the organic version of an organic material.

You're dreaming. $1500 would be a bare minimum, even for old and used, as long as condition was reasonable. $1425 would have been a steal. Newer stock should run $2000 up, even used. The biocellulose seems to hold up well over time. The earpads are another story, but those are replaceable.

Why don't you email the guy from the auction and see if he actually sold them to the highest bidder. Seeing as his reserve was not met it seems highly unlikely. If you can talk to him maybe you can figure out if he's legit or not and come to terms that work for both of you.

Just a suggestion.
