I have a Chinese outboard DAC that runs on a 24 volt DC wall wart and it's noisy. I want to buy a new one that's filtered better. Any suggestions as to brand and type? Also, are there any cost effective battery solutions? I've looked at pairs of 12 volt rechargeable NIMH battery packs designed for Airsoft guns, but between two packs and a charger I'm looking at over $100.

Here's a link to a good example of what you MAY (or may not) be looking for:

Here's a link to the manufacturer's detailed description page:

The picture is NOT correct on the Newark web page, but the description of the item IS.
The picture IS correct on the manufacturer's detailed description page.
This one is a Wall Wart, with three AC pins (one is ground), and a 2.5mm barrel-type DC connector, center tip positive. It's a regulated 24V PSU, providing 8W max (0.33 Amps max).
I've owned multiple of these for various amps, and they give a very good power quality/quietness per dollar spent.

Since I'm not familiar with the specific unit you are looking to power, it's up to you to ensure that this particular PSU meets the power and connector (size and polarity) requirements for that unit. As stated initially, this link is offered as a good example of what you MAY be looking for.

I bought a Monica 2 Dac. I tried it on a few psu's but ended up powering it from a 12ah 12v sealed lead acid battery. Way less noise!

Battery power should be the quick and easy way to produce quiet sound.

Wall wart type power supplies can be noisy. The Elpac units are considered among the most quiet for audio use at their price point.
