Hi guys, I have couple questions:

1. Beside Denon D1000(1) -- are there any full-size headphones with the wire less than 1.5 meter long? (5-6 feet) NOT coiled.

2. My Denon D1001 earpads kinda worn out, do they sell the earpad separately?

I am considering to give a try on another full-size headphones for my listening, but I don't want long cable since I am quite mobile as well.

Thanks!

Don't want a long cable?
You could give it a recable at a different length. Kill two birds w/ one stone.

The length of the cord shouldn't have to be a determining factor for what headphone to buy.

But, maybe the k81dj?

As an alternative to a full recable (which is cheap if you DIY btw), you can just lop some cable off of your phones and reterminate. It isn't hard at all. If you have a phone with a 6 foot cable, and you want a 4 foot, just cut 2 feet off and buy a neutrik jack. Three easy solders and you are done. Even if you have to buy a cheap soldering iron on top of the jack, the whole project won't top $20.

@koshman: he means he wants circumaural. Also, the k81 is really small. It surprised me the first time I saw them.

OK, I've only seen them on someone and they didn't seem small, but it was a kid, so...

If cable length is all you're worried about, get the cans you like and modify/replace the cable. You can find someone to do it for not much $$$ if you don't want to do it yourself.

I always thought recabling is such a nightmare if you have to open the can and do soldering INSIDE the can (near all those speakers and stuff). I don't know if you can soldering on the jack part.

I have no experience with soldering, so should I do an experience with a crappy earbud first? Are they going to be just the same?

I know how sexy grados are, but the fact that they're open and supra is turn me off ;_;

And do we have a DIY tutorial with image to show how to solder cable into neutrik jack? I googled it but only comes up with the products and DIY for home stereo (one left one right) ;(

Thank you.

I did my first soldering on headphones, it wasn't very difficult. Basically, you poke the solder with the soldering iron, the solder melts, you stick the wire in the solder (Ideally you also put solder on the wire to help make sure it connects well) and it dries pretty much instantly. Soldering finished.

Doing the plug is the hard part, but I managed to do it.
