I certainly would never characterize them as fatiguing.

I just wanted to share "my" experience and, of course, YMMV.

I once owned all three IEMs you mentioned at the same time and I also thought about the ease of swapping cables among them. So I sourced a pair of adapters.

Turned out, I didn't like them much.

Even thought the adapters are well made and they fit in my MDR7550 neatly, I found that it's not so easy to disconnect cables. It's super tight. I was afraid that I would break either the adapters or cable connectors every time I attempted removing cables.

More importantly, the adapters change the angle of cable which makes it kind of awkward to wear MDR7550 over ears.

I've been thinking about this issue as well. There are angled mmcx connectors like those used in the Fiio line.

I've been so endlessly intrigued by the 7550 that I've finally decided to just order a pair to compare to the EX1000.

Going by both Tyll's graph and Sonove's, it should be possible to equalise an EX1000 to sound quite similar to the 7550 / EX800 by reducing some of the frequencies above 2k. I really wonder if the actual in-ear experience of the EX800 will sound like such an equalisation. I tried an EQ of -1db at 2k, -3db at 4k, -5db at 8k, -3db at 16k. So far it sounds like a smoother EX1000 with a slightly more closed in soundstage because the lingering 'ambient' notes in the high frequencies are diminished.

Was anyone ever able to confirm whether the 7550 (Multi layer polymer) actually uses a different driver from the EX1000 (liquid crystal polymer)? While the frequency response graphs are pretty darn similar (the use of a filter on the 7550 seemingly being responsible for most of the changes) Tyll's THD graph for the EX1000 is noticeably better than the one for the 7550, especially as the EX1000 doesn't have much of a rise in distortion at 100db.

Then again, Sony lists a 500mW power handling figure for the 7550 vs 200mW for the EX1000...

I tend to think that the EX1000 has a bit more of a magic sparkle to it that makes it a better choice for a lot of tracks, but on enough tracks the treble sibilance takes me out of the whole experience.

The 7550 is a little more conservative / boring. It's amazing how much difference 3db or so can make across the treble range in taking out that sense of 'air'. However the sound is still emotive and beautifully mellow in its own way, and across all the music I listen to its more of a 'safe pair of hands'. I can listen for a long time with great enjoyment, and I really do value that (if for the protection of my ears alone).

It's definitely a compromise between the two. The EX1000 is the flashy one that would probably impress more on first listen, but the 7550 holds its own charm over the long run to me. The longer cable on the 7550 also makes it great for desktop use!

Hi, all

My experience after a week with new EX800ST:

https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/4000706847547.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1b564c4d73hfdT ... which is a pretty stiff 1.2 m cable (no problem as it does not tangle), but proprietary connectors, angle for around ear and sound and quality and LOOK are all good.

I use the IEMs with large black Spinfit 240 as Complys Isolation 400s took away bass (???), have not tried other or stock tips yet.

With Spinfits 240 I feel the subbass rumbling vibration with the tape mod with a VERY small hole.

I like that raising the bass with the tape mod and EQ does not take away mids at all. With any other IEM I have (Jade EA3, KZ AS16, Sony XB50AP) the mids disappeared after raising bass to my required levels. I can listen to these on very low volume and the WHOLE bass spectrum sticks.

As a source I use Samsung Galaxy A40 + Hiby Music player + Topping NX4 DSD in DAC mode at 11:00 AM max. volume + bass boost ON.

Maxxing the Hibby's Bass extension slider to +100 and increasing 32 Hz EQ to max. gives me the proper bass for my currently favourite drill rap in 128Kbps MP3s LOL. With the other above IEMs the bass would start to distort very quickly, but 800ST eat the whole snowboard hill.

Now, for outside, even during when I skateboard in Amsterdam (hard 101A wheels and brick-like tiles), I have absolutely no problem with isolation or fit.

Compared with abovementioned 3 IEMs:

Jade EA3 Subbass is VERY present but only because of weak bass or mid bass, EX800ST has it all
KZ AS16 Obviously no subbass with BA, and also weak bass, even though fast (good for hardcore and fast guitar punk and FPS gaming)
Sony XB50AP Bass distorts very soon and they sound like shower room, no mids at all after raising bass

It looks that these are endgame for a long time for me

Highly recommend, the massive, limitless (till ears say '!!!NO!!!') and clear textured high quality bass is incredibly addictive. The rest of sound spectrum just sticks at comfy level.
